Author of Milo 2.0/Agent Intern Debra Driza

I’m Debra Driza, and I’m a physical-therapist-turned-Young-Adult-author and a stay-at-home mom. Not to be confused with a stay-at-home mistress—those are the ones who eat bon-bons and watch soap operas all day long. The soap operas sort of fall by the wayside when you have a seven-year old, a three-year-old, three dogs (one of them seriously defective), one extremely messy husband, and deadlines to meet.
Seriously, though–my family is great. I wouldn’t change one second of our crazy, messy, unorganized lives. What this house lacks in a paper or dog-free spot on the couch, it makes up for in laughter and hugs.
I’m represented by Taylor Martindale of the Sandra Dijkstra Literary Agency.  The first book in my YA sci-fi thriller series debuts in Fall 2012 from Katherine Tegen Books/Harper Collins.

I’m a mix of all things responsible and irresponsible.
I’m a mom of three kids, wife, sister, daughter and work part time as a primary care internal medicine physician in the midwest. I worked my butt off at Columbia University for undergrad, NYU School of Medicine for med school, and Bellevue Hospital/NYU for my internal medicine residency. It’s a wonder I have any butt left to sit on at this point in my life.
So that’s my responsible side.
I also write fiction. That’s my irresponsible side. What can I say? It’s enormously fun making stuff up.
I write young adult and middle grade novels, though I started out writing poetry and creative non-fiction. Writing is a bit of an obsessive disease with me, and I’m not looking for the cure any time soon.
I’m represented by Eric Myers of the Spieler Agency.

Author Laura Diamond

Laura Diamond is an author of all things Young Adult (YA): paranormal, dystopian, and horror. She also dabbles in Middle Grade, and even New Adult. As a board certified psychiatrist, she feels her education helps her create compelling characters and real people in her stories. Diamond knows how people react and pulls out the emotions, not only from the characters but also the reader.

Laura Diamond has always enjoyed reading, but she never thought she could write a novel. That is, until she experimented with short stories and creative writing during medical school. While in residency, she took the plunge and committed herself to learning the art of writing. She honed her craft visiting writer forums, establishing a network of mentors and peers and by practicing ... A LOT. Now Laura Diamond is a successful published author of short stories, a novelette, two novels, and counting.

Diamond approaches each book differently usually beginning with a single character. She's drawn to the character-envisioning what they look like, how they perceive their world, what challenges they have to navigate, and who's with them along the way, whether it be a friend or foe. Then she presents a challenge for them--because she's mean like that--and makes sure to throw as many roadblocks in their way as possible. For Diamond, this is her key to developing compelling stories.

Diamond likes writing Young Adult (YA) because it's during a time in life that is rife with challenges and intense emotions. The paranormal interest comes in because Laura has always had an affinity for magical creatures and dark worlds.
